Bécassine outfit

We hesitated for a long time to sell this Bécassine outfit, because the character of Bécassine contributed to perpetuating the image of the slightly silly Breton woman, which was the one that it was fashionable to adopt during the "Belle Époque". In dictionaries it was unashamedly indicated that the “Breton race” was backward. So if we had a slightly stupid “maid”, she could only be Breton! Bécassine's outfit is in fact an outfit largely inspired by a traditional Dutch outfit, which was the nationality of the author's family maid.
But a Dutch idiot was definitely less of a seller.
In short, as a Breton, the character is not likely to make you smile.
With hindsight, the Bretons no longer have to prove their worth and many children identified with the character, not always very smart, but not evil, a good background in short.
We decided to put on sale this outfit made several decades ago by Éts Peignon in Nantes, active from 1853 until the very beginning of the 2000s.

Chest measurement: 90 cm.
Arm length: 40 cm.
