Letter signed Gribeauval, the reformer of French artillery, to claim a decoration not delivered.
Handwritten letter (185 x 250 mm)to claim a medal awarded, but not delivered, signed Gribeauval, the famous general who "revolutionized" French artillery and played a large part in the successes of the armies of the revolution and the Empire
From 1764 to his death, Gribeauval reformed French artillery.
He developed the first complete weapon system, including armament (cannon, howitzer and mortar), and accompanying equipment (cart, ammunition box, etc.).
He organized the artillery into 4 distinct services: campaign, siege, place and coast.
Each service has weapons and tools adapted to the situation.
The manufacturing quality of the equipment adopts industrial designs: detailed sizing, plans and standardization of component parts.
He died in 1789, too early to measure the profit that France derived from it.
