For decoration or show, this is how swords were conceived and manufactured around 1900.
There was no point in manufacturing blades that could not be used in combat to equip weapons intended for decorative purposes, and this is why, on models that are not truly historical, we find blades signed Coulaux à Klingenthal, and duly hallmarked, as on the sword with a scabbard.
This means that these weapons can be used in combat (light combat, of course... not against a two-handed sword), but without any guarantee in case of breakage. As with any antique weapon, it's a gamble!
Both swords have 80 cm blades and bronze guards with filigree tangs.
There is a little play in the guard of the one without a scabbard; the end of the tang needs to be re-mauled.
Good overall condition. Small repair at the bottom of the scabbard.
