Senior officer sword second Empire. 27 march 1852 type. With its full dress sword knot
A fine all-arms senior officer's sword, model of March 27, 1852. The guard features an eagle against a background of six flags, their staffs also ending in small eagles.
The pommel is also an eagle, for those who might have missed the fact that we are back under the Empire, and that Emperor Napoleon III wants to show it!
The flags' stamens are tied beneath the thunderbolt.
The push button that unlocks the guard is present and functional.
Overall length 103 cm, including an 87 cm lozenge-shaped blade. A beautiful horn grip, like those found on generals' swords; it only lacks the stars.
In original condition, very good, clear markings: Coulaux, Klingenthal...etc.
Described in Jean Lhoste's book "Les sabres et les épées portes en France des origines à nos jours" (Sabres and Swords Worn in France from their Origins to the Present Day), page 347, item number 642. No scabbard
