Sabre briquet, Empire type, made by Manufacture de VERSAILLES. More recent scabbard
Weapons from the Versailles factory are usually luxury items, with exorbitant prices, but the workshops of Bouttet, the "artistic director," also produced less common troop weapons. It is a pleasure to offer you a saber from this prestigious factory.
It features a good, solid hilt with 28 flutes, the type used during the Empire. The guard is marked VERSAILLES and stamped with Bouttet's B, as well as (among other things) a cartouche containing the letters LF.
The back of the blade (slightly oxidized) is marked "Manuf imp le Klingenthal Janvier 1813" (Manufactured by the Imperial Factory of Klingenthal, January 1813). Several hallmarks are more or less visible, including the L of Lobstein, inspector from 1804 to 1821...and others.
You can use this fine saber for reenactments with the scabbard we provide. This scabbard is a copy made several decades ago, which has acquired the patina of age. As a result, it looks like a well-worn scabbard, but it has the sturdiness of a new one.
You will have the pleasure of carrying a weapon that may have been used in prestigious battles, without risking damage to old and fragile parts.
Total length 735 mm, blade length 590 mm.
This was kind of the "Swiss Army knife" of the Empire soldier. It was used to chop wood as well as to cut up food. Although they were absolutely useless when fighting against cavalry sabres, infantrymen would nevertheless hold on to it. Complies with contemporary rules.
