Blackened steel scabbard with bronze fittings.
The guard is the regulation model for officers' sabers of the Consular Guard's Grenadier Guard... In other words, the number of original examples of this saber can be counted on the fingers of two hands, at most.
The blade and scabbard are not original to the model, but are in the style of sabers produced for senior officers during the Consulate. Only one example offered for sale... Don't miss out!

Bronze hilt with five branches, composed of:
a main branch with a central lozenge decorated with a gadrooned finial;
a secondary branch in the shape of a rooster's head, ending in volutes and palmettes;
three secondary branches forming a shell at the front, each decorated at the top with a rooster's head, which curls around itself to form a palmette with an acanthus leaf.
The shell is openwork in the shape of a spiderweb with a sandblasted background, surmounted by a flaming grenade.
Eagle's head quillon. Short-tailed pommel decorated with a palmette surmounted by a crown of stars, topped with a lion's head in relief.
Shagreen-covered grip.
945 cm steel blade, UNUSABLE IN COMBAT, decorated with numerous engravings and cartouches framing inscriptions of attribution.
A few minor, insignificant oxidation spots.
Inscription on the back: "Sabre of the officers of the horse grenadiers of the 1st Consul Model I".
