Saber for dragoon and light cavalry, 1790 type.

A completely authentic revolutionary saber, which doesn't betray the manufacture of the period, often without markings... Whatever could be found was used to equip the soldiers of the levy en masse, the good and the bad.
Total length 106 cm including a 90 cm blade. Semi-pink copper hilt, with 3 branches, leather-wrapped knuckle trimmed with a simple filigree. It is generally in good condition.
This type of saber was not in production for very long, but it continued to be used throughout the Napoleonic Wars.
This saber was appraised by JJ Buigne (Le Hussard) about fifteen years ago, see last picture, and valued at €1,100. He defines it as a light cavalry saber.
Some dragoon regiments were indeed converted into light cavalry regiments in 1790 and retained the sabers they had previously, but the double-fulled blades were more specifically used by the dragoons.
